Textual content description supplied by the architects. MCC Theater was based in 1986 by a collective of younger actors, writers and administrators, and is now one in all New York’s main off Broadway theater firms. MCC requested us to create a house for his or her neighborhood of creative administrators, playwrights, actors, technicians, youth program, and patrons. They wished a facility that allowed for collaboration and synergy between its members. Flexibility to run a number of productions concurrently and areas permitting for them to increase their vary and ambition was essential.
We labored collectively to develop a program, which included a 250-seat proscenium theater and a 99-seat flexibly configured efficiency house. The foyer was imagined as a panorama to be absolutely used all through the day, by your complete MCC neighborhood. Rehearsal, workshop, dressing room and again of home areas have been supplied to assist the efficiency areas. And administrative and co-working areas for a employees of forty have been supplied for MCC’s full time employees.
We got down to make the theater areas heat, adaptable and intimate, with optimum acoustics and wonderful sight traces. The uncooked, frank look belies the intimate nature of the expertise inside. We wished the architecture to exhibit a posh decision achieved by way of a cautious and nuanced acceptance of the given setting itself. We noticed on this a relationship to the method by which MCC makes emotionally sincere up to date theater.
